The Goldsteins Bakery has a very long and interesting history. Being a pastry cook and a baker has been in the blood of its family members for generations. The art that was originally learnt in Germany has been passed down and has been the foundation for the success of Goldsteins Bakery and Pie Shop. After serving in Australian Forces and working in some renown cake shops in Brisbane, Julius and Paula Goldstein opened their own bakery in Roma Street, Brisbane known as the ‘Busy Bee’, in 1944. This was the start of greater things to come

Australians had never experienced many of the products that were made at the Busy Bee such as Cheese Cake, Strudels and poppy seeds on Breads. There are many humorous and interesting stories and encounters to the early history of Goldsteins Bakery. The pair settled down and started a family having three sons, all of which, when old enough were giving their hard working parents a hand whenever they could. The two oldest boys Frank and John both studied and learnt their apprenticeships from their father whilst the youngest, Robert, went on to become a chartered accountant and help the future growth of the business.

Gold Coasters would frequent the Busy Bee in Brisbane and eventually convinced the family to move to the Coast as it was a boomtown and needed a good bakery. 1957 was the year and the Goldsteins soon made a name for themselves by calling their new Bakery ‘Goldsteins’. The family then decided to open a second bakery in the Sundale Shopping Centre in Southport that was also a huge success. This started a chain reaction and as the Gold Coast started to spread, so did Goldsteins Bakery that is now a chain of 15 outlets and growing.

Goldsteins Bakery & Pie Shop is now nationally recognized for its famous Meat Pies for which it has won many awards. The business has won awards in many different areas of business from quality baking to retail excellence and remains 100% family owned and operated business with 124 loyal staff of long time employment and remains committed to Business and Baking Excellence.
